PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES


Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2020

Members Present: Jeff Gondek, Jenny Frankart, Stephanie Harris, Brandon Prewitt
Caitlyn Dunn, Ann Pooler, Casey Minton, Dan Loper, Jackie Magill,
David Sharvin, Michael Schmidt, Francis Krumholtz.


Location: Virtually via Zoom
The meeting was called to order at 7:31pm


Race Relations and Impact on Community:

  • A general discussion was had about the Black Lives Matter movement and the impact on Italian Village Society and overall neighborhood.

  • It was brought to our attention that many of the boards along High St are coming down and being preserved. One idea was offered for Italian Village Park to display the boards. The effort is being lead by the Short North Alliances and the respective businesses.

  • It was discussed how we can increase Diversity and Inclusion within IVS. Some solutions included offering financial assistance those underserved or under privileged community members. Also, reaching out and making the ask for these folks to be involved.

  • A conversation was had surrounding reforms to Policing. Many ideas were offered around community based alternatives. Sandra Lopez spoke about the city’s response for calls to defund CPD and other actions the City of Columbus is considering and discussing.

Updates on 54SID (Special Improvement District):

  • Those impacted by the SID will be notified by the City via mail June 29th.

  • It was noted that this Fall the community would become more involved in what services come into play as a result of the SID.

  • IVS expressed strong desire to be in the communication loop with Short North Alliance and City of Columbus.


Italian Village Park:
IVS Board is working to find a date to host a Park Beautification day. More information will be coming on this topic.

Membership:
Historically, June has been IVS’ membership drive. Brandon Prewitt spoke about benefits of membership and renewing your membership. A more focused effort will be places on tracking and updating membership information moving forward.
